Vanderbilt Children's Health Improvement and Prevention (VCHIP) is an initiative of Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt to improve the lives of children through outreach, education, treatment, intervention and prevention programs. This department brings programs beyond the hospital walls and into the community with the help of our volunteers. We focus on educating children and parents to ensure that all children have a positive start in life, are cared for and safe, practice healthy behavior, and make successful transitions to adulthood. The department targets the leading health issues affecting children today—obesity, early childhood development, school health and safety.
Three Primary Advocacy and Outreach Areas
Healthy Children
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has documented that certain behaviors often adopted during childhood are contributing to today's major causes of death for adults such as heart disease, cancer and injuries. Therefore, our Healthy Children initiatives are designed to promote healthy behaviors in today's children to better prepare them to become healthy and productive adults.
